Reef Restoration
Coral reef restoration initiatives are occurring more frequently around the globe as coastal communities realize the value of these ecosystems. This initiative will mitigate natural reef destruction by replacing the market supply with products from offshore platforms. In addition, coral and invertebrates from the platforms can be genetically assessed for compatibility and potentially transplanted onto natural reef substrate to help restore natural reefs that are damaged. Certification and traceability of organisms obtained from platforms enable consumers to select these preferred sources over those harvested from natural reefs.
